. our susan candiotti joins us with the latest on the investigation. >> and of course the question is, why an attack on this 34-year-old diplomat who had been in the country for about eight years now working at the nicaraguan mission. cesar mercado. and police found not one but two knives. and they weren't found next to his body. they were found in the bathroom of the small studio apartment where the diplomat lived. cesar mercado, apparently one of the knives were a steak knife according to new york police commissioner paul brown. and he says it was found near the bathroom sink and the sink was filled with blood, unfortunately. and the second knife was a smaller paring knife and that was found inside the sink. so why the positioning of the knives? so many questions to be answered here. his body was found just inside the front door. and when the driver came, the door was unlocked. he opened it up, looked inside, saw the body, and immediately called the police. so they have a lot to try to figure out. his throat, indeed, was cut. and they also said that he was stabbed in the stomach. so

out and instead stay on the job. one person tells us she plans to work until she dies. i'll tell what you, this isn't a new phenomenon. take a look at these numbers here. in 1998, 12% of workers over 65 stayed on the job by choice. in 2008, 17% of older workers delayed retirement. now we're at 18%. so we're seeing this number inch up. by 2018, it's forecast that 22% of workers are going to delay their requirement. now not everyone is staying at their current job. some choose to take on new projects. others start a business. one person tells us when he retired he started a small ebay business. then again some other people just decide to change careers. they got the confidence to do that. one mother who retired from the public school system is now a college professor and education consultant. some people have options, t.j., because at this age they're at the height of their careers and not really ready to pack it in and start golfing, gardening and bird watching. they want to reach to new heights in their careers. >> you give some of the reasons there they might want to keep working. ho

'll tell us how the administration is about to go with a prominent republican. let's begin with brianna keilar live in washington. congress is back in session for the big midterm election push and they've got a very big issue on their hands in the matter of whether or not to extend these bush tax cuts. this is -- this is going to be an interesting one to watch in the next couple of days. >> and this is the big issue, jim. this is the issue that in really less than four weeks because they're out of there again. they're out of washington again ahead of the election season, this is what they're going to be dealing with. and obviously, the issue that continues to resinate is republican leader john boehner who had said that he would go along with extending the tax cuts for everyone except for the wealthiest earns, which, of course, is what president obama has gone for. but it's created a jumbled message among republicans. because look at what some other republicans are saying. you have mitch mcconnell who is saying, no, i'm pushing legislation to keep these tax cuts in place across the board

weather center tracking all of this for us this morning. so are they still in a situation where the waters are still rising now? >> no, the river at least at portage did crest last night. but it's going to remain above flood stage for quite some time. not only across wisconsin, but southern and central parts of minnesota. we've got all these rivers that are actually draining into the mississippi. and we're going to see some issues, i think, downstream from there, as well. so that's issue number one. issue number two is -- more immediate concerns, what's going on in portage. here's where the river crested. the record is is 20.5 feet. it crested just above that last night. and now it's at about 20.2 feet. we're at near record strange. major flood stage, but not expected to come back down below flood stage really until late wednesday into thursday. so we've got quite some time before this river really gets below the danger zone. and what i mean by danger zone is, well, usually after a river crests, we can relax, but because of this situation where you have all of that pressure on this very, v

's the latest you have for us? >> reporter: represent oldz, winds have been picking up steadily the last few hours. here in ocean city, maryland, the worst is still ahead of us. we're awaiting those tropical storm winds. we have a little bit of rain but what we could be seeing as this system is off the coast and rotating, we're really waiting for the back end of it where we could see some really heavy rain and some winds that will have to be bracing ourselves for. this is the concern. take a look. this is the surf here, pretty rough seas and while the beach itself is not closed and people have been strolling along the beach and strolling along the boardwalk getting in a little fun before they may have to take shelter, the water is closed because of dangerous rip current conditions. no surfing, no swimming. we just talked with a lifeguard who said a lot of people are just coming out here to get a look. they're getting too close, maybe they're just wanting to get their feet wet, but there are a lot of unpredictable waves. we even saw this yesterday ourselves and they are warning people to get

just indulge myselo this is my local church. for me it's special because when i used to pray in the jungle, i would pray a lot to this virgin here--the virgin of guadalupe. i read so many times the bible when i was in captivity. i have many favorite passages. one of my favorite is the letter from sans. and he's talking about a vision he had, and he was suffering a lot. and then he hears jesus saying "my grace suffice you." he doesn't need anything else to overcome his pain than the grace of jesus. in a way, he discovered that the more fragile he was, the more stronger he was. and it just made a lot of sense to me in the jungle because it's exactly how i felt. oprah: wow. so what's the most important lesson you think you learned from this ordeal? what did you take from this ordeal? >> well, it--something that helps me every day since i'm free, which is that--it came to a point where i had lost everything. everything. i mean i couldnt move, i couldnt go to the toilet, i couldnt drink when i wanted, i couldnt talk to anybody. i couldn't do anything without--without havingher
